Dwelling is of all times. This studio is a quest for sustainable architectural values within the residential building against the background of societal transitions. The studio starts with research by design on historic dwelling typologies. This research focuses on the one hand on permanently valid architectural structures and time resistant details. On the other hand it aims at defining, in architectural terms, the consequences of the dynamics of the residential program, technological developments and the changing relationship between the public and private.
The task is to design a small residential complex for a specific target group; a high standard living environment in an (sub) urban context. The aim is to develop a sublime and timeless architectural living quality. Special attention is paid to the relationship between the exterior and the interior, the spatial experience and human scale.
The studio focuses on the ability of the student to develop a design in which the spatiality, the choice of material and the architectural detail are brought to a coherent synthesis. As a design tool at all scales, the model plays a central role in this studio.
