The Super Giant
By Michiel Raats & Froukje van de Klundert
A proposal to scale up the main stadium for the Olympic games in 2028. Instead of a black elephant, creating a super giant, by examining the potential of larger structures, of combining stadia, functions, time and experience at multiple scales.
The super giant is a spatial configuration of all the Olympic venues in one building, which creates an intense and vibrating environment where continues interactions of sports and spatial experiences intertwine. A structure that breaths, exhibits and embodies the Olympics.
The experience of the games is multiplied by the amount of possible games to visit and see, people to meet and sports to encounter. A place where one can actually attend multiple games simultaneously. Perhaps even see all the games being played at the same time.
By combining and configuring stadia and maybe even other elements such as housing and training, we create built mass. Where a normal stadium has nothing more than a big void to offer for reuse. The super giant incorporates all stadia and even the infrastructure in between, therefore exponentially increasing its potential during and after the Games.
