Spatial Studies
As an architect or urban designer, how does one get a grip on the architectural and urban dimensions of space? How can one – besides with program, strategy and shape – work with light, material and color? How does one involve the spatial surroundings into the composition of the design? How does one render the image of space intelligible, how can one characterize and rework it? How can one adapt it into models, sketches and montages? How can one make sure material, composition, color and atmosphere to play an important role during the concept phase of the design? How do these aspects of design work throughout all different scales of the urban space? In a series of short lectures different aspects will be discussed and will be tried upon during the design assignment for a simple volume on a dense metropolitan site in Rotterdam - Heide Hinterthür & Els Bet
